Pure has revealed its first Apple AirPlay product with the Pure Contour 200i Air.

At the same time, it has taken the wraps of the MkII version of its Sensia DAB/internet radio, the £250 Sensia 200D Connect.

It looks the same as the existing Contour 200i Air dock radio, with the retracting iPod dock at the front.

This time however there’s no DAB or FM radio on board, but it has AirPlay capability, so it can stream music wirelessly from your Mac, PC or iPad/iPod/iPhone via Ethernet wired or Wi-Fi wireless connection.

The lack of radio has been justified by the unit’s compatibility with the Pure Lounge app which gives access to tens of thousands of internet radio stations and on-demand content, including the Pure Music subscription service – so there’s no need, basically.

The Contour 200i Air will charge whatever Apple device is docked with it, and it can be controlled using the supplied remote.

It produces 2 x 18 watts of power and can be used as part of an AV system using the coaxial digital audio output, and there’s an aux input for connecting other MP3 players. Power output is 2 x 18W.

Colin Crawford, Pure’s director of marketing, said: “Someday we’ll wonder why we ever had to physically connect devices, and Apple AirPlay is leading that behavioural sea change. There is nothing to beat the convenience of sitting back in your armchair to control your music collection with your iPad or iPhone, while the music itself is played beautifully and powerfully by Contour 200i Air.”

The Pure Contour 200i Air goes on sale this month for £200.

Pure Sensia 200D Connect

Pure has also announced an upgraded version of its Sensia 200D Connect radio with colour touch screen.

Again, it looks similar to its predecessor, but it now has hard control buttons on top and the sensitivity of the touch screen interface has been improved. You can now also record digital or internet radio straight to a USB memory stick for playback on other Pure products such as the Sirocco 550 or Highway 300Di in-car DAB system.

The audio performance has been improved with DSP tuning of the Class D amplifiers which produce 2 x 25watts of power.

The Pure Sensia 200D Connect will go on sale for £250 in summer 2012.
