UK-based DAB radio expert Pure has teamed up with the RSPB to provide a library of birdsong from the top 50 UK birds to its radios.

The free service will be available to radios with Flow technology and Pure’s media portal, thelounge.com.

Launching to coincide with the RSPB’s summer survey ‘Make Your Nature Count’, the Pure birdsong library can be used to identify birds in your garden or local park, whether they’re well-known tweeters like the robin or blackbird, to more obscure warblers like the lesser spotted woodpecker and pied wagtail. The radios will also display scrolling text about the birds.

The birdsong library will also be available on the go through the PURE Lounge iPhone App, but will set you back £2.99. Pure’s touch screen Sensia radio and the Lounge itself will also display illustrations of the birds to help identification.

Colin Crawford, PURE’s director of marketing, said: “We know that birdsong is extremely popular with our customers as it has consistently been the top alarm on Siesta Flow, our internet-connected bedside radio, so we jumped at the chance to offer a RSPB endorsed library of birdsong as we know it will be a real hit with our customers as well as a great educational tool.”
