Onkyo has announced a firmware update to its remote app for Android that gives it direct support for Spotify Premium.

Onkyo home cinema receivers compatible with the upgraded app include the TX-NR609, TX-NR709, TX-NR809, TX-NR1009, TX-NR3009, TX-NR5009, and PR-SC5509. More than 99 per cent of Spotify’s tracks are available in high bitrate (320 kbps) for Premium users.

The upgrade will be compatible with more models towards the end of November, including the TX-NR509 network receiver, the HT-S6405 and HT-S940THX AV home cinema packages and the TX-8050 network stereo receiver. That upgrade will also enable owners of all Onkyo network products with Spotify support to access the music streaming service using their Facebook account details.
