Bowers & Wilkins has announced a brand new stereo-only speaker, the PM1.

The standmount will sit between the existing CM series and flagship 800 Diamond range at £1,995 a pair and has been created in association with design firm Native, which also worked on the much-lauded Zeppelin.

It has a carbon-braced tweeter mounted on top of the cabinet with an aluminium dome stiffened with a ring of filament-wound, pitch-based carbon fibre, allowing it to reproduce frequencies up to 40KHz.

The Kevlar cone bass/midrange driver is similar to the one on the CM1 but comes with a new anti-resonance plug made from rigid EVA that fits inside the voice coil former, helping to dampen resonances in the cone.

The cabinet itself uses B&W’s Matrix bracing system for improved rigidity and both the front baffle and curved top panel are made from a thermoset plastic composite with an extra layer of mineral-filled resin on the back for additional mass and damping.

The crossover is kept as simple to maintain the purity of the signal, and uses Mundorf M-Cap Supreme capacitors. Oxygen-free copper speaker terminals are fitted on the back of the cabinet.

The B&W PM1 will be available in July for £1,995 a pair in Mocha Gloss finish, with a Burgundy version to follow, and dedicated stands available for £400.
