The latest addition to the Chord Company line-up is the Sarum, a new cable development, taking key elements from all previous Chord cables.

It was originally named the Chord Solstice but following the launch of power, interconnect and speaker cables, Chord was contacted by an American company regarding the use of the Solstice name, which had been registered in the United States. Because they felt that their flagship cable range should be recognised globally, the name of the Chord Solstice cable range was changed to Chord Sarum, but the materials, configuration and construction methods of the cables as presented in this video remain unchanged.

The name has a rich history as Sarum refers to a Neolithic hill fort situated on the outskirts of the City of Salisbury, which reflects not only Chord’s geographic position but also the heritage of the countryside that surrounds Chord’s research and production facility in the heart of Wiltshire.

Taking the high frequency shielding elements from previous cables the techniques are refined and improved and the conductors are highly polished before being silver plated. Shielding is specially applied using heavy gauge foil, offering the best level of shielding possible. The shielding is surrounded in a Teflon coating that lowers its dielectric value and adding to its performance characteristics. It is by far the most difficult and complex cable they have decided to manufacture.

Mains leads, interconnects and speaker cables are available in the Sarum range. The Sarum speaker cable is terminated with their long established gold-plated 4mm banana plug. Despite its apparent simplicity, this plug offers an extremely secure fit with a high pressure contact point and is extremely reliable. Sarum speaker cable can also be fitted with spade connectors.
