Marantz Professional Adds Network Compact Flash Recorder To PMD Range

March 20, 2008 — Press release

DMi D&M Installation has introduced the Marantz Professional PMD580 1U rackmount Compact Flash™ memory card recorder. Shown at the recent ISEurope exhibition, the PMD580 brings advanced network control capabilities to the solidstate recorder format; a product category in which Marantz Professional leads the field.

A highly versatile solidstate recorder/ player and full-fledged network device, with Ethernet LAN and USB connectivity, the PMD580 is designed for all manner of broadcast, pro-audio and professional AV applications. Drag and drop file transfer and network remote control, via the PC and Mac compatible web-based GUI, are major features allowing users to set menu parameters, schedule recording events, and transfer and archive audio files.

The PMD580 has an internal clock for scheduling recording events; multiple events can be scheduled via the web interface and recorded files can then be downloaded to a local PC/ Mac. Files can also be uploaded automatically to a server or network location, at a user specified time. Ease of use, low maintenance, robust recording media, and network connectivity recommend it where operator skill is minimal, such as in education, government agency and commercial AV applications.

Professional audio credentials include balanced analogue and digital AES/EBU I/Os on XLR connectors, as well as unbalanced interfaces, and RS232 control.

Recording is selectable between mono and stereo, and linear PCM and MP3 formats – providing .WAV and MP3 file types. For PCM recording, 16 and 24-bit options are available and for MP3, bit rate is selectable between 32 and 384 kbps. Record start and stop times can be scheduled and a pre-record memory buffer enables recording to be activated at the start of an event. The integrated time and date generator automatically stamps all sessions.

Solidstate recorders is a product category in which Marantz Professional has led the field since the introduction of its first model in 1999. The company currently boasts a coherent product range comprising seven models, including handheld, portable and rackmount variants. Commenting on the addition of the PMD580 to the PMD range, DMi General Manager, Mark Perrins, states, “Marantz Professional has introduced network connectivity in direct response to demand from the market place. Our customers have been very clear as to the potential benefits to their workflow of integrating the capabilities of the Marantz Compact Flash format products fully within their network systems. The combination of CF media and the feature set of the Marantz PMD recorder offers unique benefits in network based applications.”
