Wharfedale Diamond 100 Series

Since its first ‘bookshelf’ speaker in 1981, Wharfedaleʼs Diamonds have been a permanent fixture in the company’s catalogue, establishing themselves as entry point high-fidelity fixtures. Now comes the Diamond 100 Series comprising two standmounts, three floorstanders, and two centre speakers.

Wharfedaleʼs engineers have redesigned the drive units including the entire treble unit, adapted the bass and midrange cones to incorporate semi-elliptical ʻbreak-upʼ areas and created an all-new cabinet panel with multi-grain faceted boards which serve to damp unwanted resonances and block internal sound leakage.

Incorporated into both the floorstanding and standmount models, the Slot-Loaded Distributed Port helps to deliver deep, articulate and integrated bass which Wharfedale claims is not often heard in this price bracket.

Wharfedaleʼs Virtual Speaker software was used to generate the design of each Diamond 100 Series speaker. The final designs were extensively analysed before prototypes were built, with driver performance, cabinet construction and room placement all simulated to ensure that both on-axis and off-axis performance is fully optimised over a wide listening area. All have been evaluated and fine-tuned by ear before being signed off.

The seven models are available from December in a choice of four finishes; black, cherry, rosewood, and walnut, and are priced as follows:

• Diamond 121 2-way standmount £230 per pair
• Diamond 122 2-way standmount £280 per pair
• Diamond 155 2.5-way floorstander £500 per pair
• Diamond 157 3-way floorstander £700 per pair
• Diamond 159 3-way floorstander £1,000 per pair
• Diamond 101C 2-way centre speaker £230
• Diamond 102C 3-way centre speaker £350
