January 12, 2012 — Article

A new add-on from Samsung could turn any TV into a smart TV, with Skype, YouTube and streaming video services.

Samsung inTouch

The inTouch system includes a webcam, microphone, internet connection and app platform, offering access to Samsung’s Smart TV online offerings including web browsing and video on demand.

Skype is included as standard and the system connects to the internet using your home Wi-Fi network. It connects to your HD TV via HDMI cable, and the 3 megapixel camera can be placed virtually anywhere, either on top of or below the TV, with an angle of rotation of 30 degrees.

It supports 720p HD video, comes with a range of preloaded apps including YouTube and Google News and Weather, plus a web browser. There’s also a laptop keyboard for easier navigation.

The Samsung inTouch system is expected to be available in March for around £130.
