TV digital switchover starts for East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Scarborough

August 03, 2011 — Article

The digital switchover has started in East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Scarborough.

Analogue transmissions of BBC 2 have now been switched off at the Belmont transmitter, which goes out to 712,000 homes. The channel has also been turned off at the Oliver’s Mount transmitter for the Scarborough region.

The start of TV switchover means thousands of viewers in digital blackspots such as Grimsby, Lincoln and Weaverthorpe can now get Freeview channels for the first time.

Homes which have already been able to receive Freeview now need to retune their TVs and set-top boxes to regain their BBC services.

The switchovers will both be completed on 17 August, when the remaining analogue channels will be switched off. Additional Freeview channels from ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 will then be available from local transmitters in the region for the first time.
