KEF has announced an updated version of its Universal Wireless System with improved software and a more powerful transmitter.

KEF Universal Wireless System 2.0

The system transmits ‘CD quality’ audio from your AV amplifier to your speakers without the need for wires and KEF claims it will now work in adjoining rooms.

All you have to do is connect the transmitter to your CD player or other source, and the two receivers to your speakers. Each of the receivers contains a 50-watt amplifier but there are a few wires still involved, since each needs to be plugged into the mains.

KEF’s wireless system uses a narrow signal band and advanced error correction technology to guard against interference from other devices such as Wi-Fi routers, microwave ovens and cordless phones. It also uses Advanced Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (AAFHSS) technology which searches for potentially conflicting transmissions and ‘hops’ around them to keep the signal stable.

Steve Halsall, managing director, KEF’s UK Business Unit, said: “The KEF Universal Wireless System 2.0 is ideal for music and movie lovers who wish to eliminate wiring between amplifiers and speakers, allowing them to create an outstanding listening environment without the need for clutter or compromising sound quality. It can also transmit sound from devices like computers and MP3 players, with a signal capable of powering speakers in nearby rooms and even outdoors.”

The KEF Universal Wireless System 2.0 is available now for £450.
