Yamaha launches 3D AV receivers

April 09, 2010 — Article

Yamaha has launched a series of new models including three 3D-ready AV receivers with HDMI 1.4 as well as five home cinema systems, each of which are either 3D-upgradable or fully 3D ready straight from the box.

Only available in the US so far, top of the range is the RX-V567 ($479 – £315, pictured) which offers 7 x 90W channels, and like the others in the line-up supports both ‘top and bottom’ and ‘side by side’ 3D broadcast content as well as upscaling standard DVD to 1080p. Passthrough of higher resolution 3D video from Blu-ray will be available after a firmware update due for release ‘soon’.

Next is the ($379 – £250) RX-V467 which includes 5 x 105W output, plus decoding of all Blu-ray HD audio formats, Yamaha’s YPAO automatic set-up, and the ability to accept audio from a TV via the HDMI monitor output, using the Audio Return Channel feature of HDMI 1.4.

Bottom of the range is the RX-V367 ($249 – £165) which offers 5 x 100W, includes Yamaha’s ‘Scene’ buttons to make set-up easy and can accept Yamaha’s range of dock adapters for iPods, iPhones, and Bluetooth.

Of the home cinema systems, the two entry-level models are the YHT-393BL ($349 – £230) and YHT-493BL ($499 – £295), both of which are 3D upgradeable and deliver 5 x 100W (to the satellites, with 100W dedicated to the subwoofer). They’re compatible with the Yamaha docks and include the ‘Scene’ set-up buttons – the main difference is that the 493 has bigger drivers.

The YHT-593BL ($549 – £360) and YHT- 693BL ($649 – £430) add HDMI 1.4 as well as Blu-ray surround audio decoding, YPAO set-up and a slight volume boost with 5 x 105W amplification plus a 100W sub.

Top of the range is the YHT-893BL($849 – £560) which boasts 7 x 90W amplification, a 100W sub, analogue video up-scaling to 1080p and it comes with its own iPod/iPhone dock.

There’s no word yet on when any of these models might be coming to the UK.
