Cambridge Audio’s first ever ‘universal’ Blu-ray player is now on sale for £400.

Already announced at the US CEDIA show, the device will play virtually every available disc type, including Blu-ray, DVD, DVD-Audio, SACD and HDCD as well as all those discs’ recordable varieties.

It also supports all the latest HD audio formats including Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio (in stereo, 5.1 and 7.1), and uses 24/192kHz DACs.

It will upscale standard DVD to 1080p and there’s support for BD-Live, as well as twin USB ports for storing BD-Live content and playing audio, video or images.

There’s a Set-Up Wizard for easy calibration easier, and CA claims its green credentials are impeccable with a standby power consumption of less than 1W.

The Cambridge Audio 650BD is available from Richer Sounds.
