Sonos ZonePlayer S5 in demo

October 25, 2009

Highlights

Ian Barnett presents the new portable, wireless Sonos S5 ZonePlayer with built-in speakers on demo for the first time at the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009.

Sonos, known for high quality, easy-to-use wireless audio systems, launches a model including speakers: two tweeters, two 3-inch midrange drivers, and an active 3.5-inch subwoofer, with five power amplifiers on board.

The system can be controlled by an iPhone, but is not an iPod docking station. It will play back audio from any typical source like an iTunes library, NAS drive, free internet radio stations, or subscription music services and offers 2 ethernet ports as well as stereo jack plug. The Sonos S5 will then send audio to any Sonos-equipped zone in the house via its proprietary wireless network.

Many additional features will be offered with the new software, with a focus on Twitter and social networking options.
