ITV has announced plans to introduce micropayments for its ITV Player online TV service early next year.
ITV Player has been confirmed as the latest addition to Freesat.
Freesat is a joint venture between the BBC and ITV, it’s intention is to bring free programmes to UK homes without a subscription. This may also include High Definition programs for the launch in May but at this time this is unclear.
UK communications watchdog Ofcom has promised HDTV services for free. The BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and five have signed a memorandum of understanding to provide HDTV programmes on Freeview in 2009-2012.
