HDMI Special: Upgrading For 3D And 200hz Technology

November 18, 2008 — Article

HDMI has been around for a number of years now but as always technology moves along at a fast pace. The HDMI ‘standard’ currently is 1.3a but with better technology coming out HDMI cable may have to change.

3D technology was the most talked about format this year with many companies putting in huge amounts of money to make 3D work. Speaking of those companies, a number of HDMI proponents are currently estimating that the HDMI specification will eventually be updated to make it ready to handle 3D and 200hz. As it stands, the current HDMI 1.3 spec should be able to handle first-gen material, but eventually, backers want it to support 200Hz rates for HD and multiple 3D views.

JVC gave CineNow a quick look at a different way of getting 3D with a prototype machine which could convert any image into 3D from any source. So any TV picture from any source such as sports, films and even games consoles can be converted into 3D.
