New JAMO R 909 thinks out of the box

November 15, 2005 — Article

The Danish founded JAMO has gained respectability for a capacity to innovate, sometimes radically. They gave us another show of their creativity with an impressive demonstration of  their R 909 loudspeakers in Paris this week.

This magnificent system is the result of ten years of research. It was conceived by Henrik Mortensen, chief acoustics engineer and was first seen at the CES in January, then in Berlin during the IFA (see our  Video clip at the JAMO stand at the Berlin IFA 2005 here).

This high end loudspeaker clearly stands out of the crowd of "classic" loudspeakers. The reason is that it is entirely "open", i.e. it has no resonance box. Its ultra strong structure marries aluminium and wood. It is a three way system, fitted with two 380mm (15in) woofers, a 150mm (5.5in) midrange and a customised 25mm (1in) Scanspeak Revelator tweeter. It boasts a 43mm thick baffle with a 7-layer laquered multi-ply construction, thanks to a long standing experience in wood treatment.

Available in most European countries by end 2005. Prices in the range of 6000 Euros (£4000) each... Aie Aie...!
