Introducing SoundScene – on-wall AirPlay speaker system

April 20, 2012 — Article

Surrey-based Imagine Acoustics has developed the first wall-hanging picture frame speaker with integrated AirPlay. The Imagine Acoustics SoundScene Model 1 speaker is the first of its kind that you can control direct from an iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, or iTunes via a computer.

The hidden stereo speaker system employs four Balanced Mode Radiator drive units. Their side-facing design means the front of the frame can be covered with any picture in any material (fabric, paper, even wood or glass) and is suitable for frames from A3 size upwards. Digital equalisation is used for each driver, each powered by its own 12.5-watt amplifier. It also comes with digital signal sensing which automatically switches the system on or off. The whole package sits proud of the wall by a mere 4.6cm.

In addition to the Apple AirPlay Model 1, Imagine Acoustics also makes a second version, Model 2, which accommodates a Sonos ZP90 wireless receiver, enabling it to be incorporated into a Sonos multi-room system.

Each SoundScene speaker is built to order in the UK and distributed by Armour Home. The SoundScene speaker retails at £1,100 for the custom unit to which your own art and frame can be attached, or £1,300 with a choice of standard artwork and frame.
