Finland’s premier active-speaker manufacturer, Genelec has launched the 6000A Tube, a limited-edition portable sound system.
The 6000A Tube is designed to improve the sound of a TV, PC, laptop or iPod whether you’re at home or on the road.
It weighs just 950g, including its bespoke table stand and measures 16×30×16cm. The speaker includes an amp offering 2×10 watts and claims a frequency range of 70Hz-20kHz.
It owes its unique look to Finnish designer Harri Koskinen and is made from aluminium. It comes with a remote control and includes an automatic signal sensing function that switches it to stand-by mode if it hasn’t been used for ten minutes.
Genelec says that “Unlike other speakers, the 6000A Tube benefits from being placed near an object, wall, or corner – making the sound spread all around. It’s designed to create a diffuse sound field that fills the room with sound effortlessly.”
The catch is that there will only ever be 2,000 Genelec 6000A Tubes made – and 1,000 of those are going straight to Japan.
If you’re still interested, you can buy one of the remaining 1,000 for €450 direct from the Genelec website.
