Spotify gets closer to the iPod

May 04, 2011 — Article

Online music streaming service Spotify has announced a new upgrade that makes it more compatible with the iPod.

Key features of the upgrade include:

• The ability to manage your iPod iPod classic, iPod nano or iPod shuffle in Spotify. Connecting your iPod to your computer now means it appears in Spotify as well as iTunes, allowing you to sync downloaded tracks and playlists directly.

• Spotify’s new download service which allows you to buy MP3 tracks in playlist bundles for prices starting at 50p per track for 100 tracks, rising to 80p per track for ten tracks.

• The Spotify Mobile app for iPhone and Android devices is now available to everyone, not just Spotify Premium subscribers. Free users will however only be able to sync tracks which they’ve paid for.

Daniel Ek, CEO & Founder of Spotify, says: “From today, Spotify really is the only music player you’ll ever need. Our users don’t want to have to switch between music players, but they do want to take their playlists with them wherever they go, on a wider range of devices, more simply and at a price they can afford. Now we’ve made that possible on one of the world’s most popular consumer devices.”
