Altec Lansing’s latest is the inMotion Air, wireless music system.

Altec Lansing inMotion Air

It has no association with Apple’s new AirPlay wireless streaming application, but uses Bluetooth to play digital music files or internet radio from your computer or MP3 player without the need for a wired connection.

It comes with a wireless adapter which plugs into your computer and can transmit stereo audio up to around 100 metres.

It has top-mounted controls, a soft-texture finish with a built-in handle and if you’ve got an iPhone or iPad or other Bluetooth phone you can also stream directly to it from your handheld.

It uses the apt-X Bluetooth codec for better sound quality, and the Bluetooth Class 1 system cuts down on interference from nearby Wi-Fi networks and cordless phones.

Two Airs can also be linked to the same source for simple multi-room playback, and the remote offers control of iTunes and Windows Media Centre.

You can also take the inMotion Air out and about thanks to its rechargeable Lithium-ion battery which promises up to seven hours playback.
