Four Sony models will go on sale from the weekend as well as internet-capable Blu-ray player which can be used as an upgrade for an existing TV.

The non-3D TVs and Blu-ray player all use the Google Android operating system, a version of which is now common on mobile phones, and include a radio remote control handset similar to the PS3 controller which includes a full QWERTY keyboard and the ability to control other Sony devices.

The TVs have a Dual View picture-in-picture function allowing you to keep the TV broadcast running in a window while you view internet content using the Chrome browser or the Twitter application.

The TVs will be available in 24in, 32in, 40in and 46in varieties, with prices starting at $600 (£375) for the NSX-24GT1, rising to $1,400 (£880), for the NSX-46GT1. The NSZ-GT1 internet Blu-ray player will cost $400 (£250).

All have built-in Wi-Fi, and will link to Android phones, though you’ll need to wait for a remote control app due towards the end of the year. They’re also al UPnP and DLNA compliant so they can stream content over a local network.

Pre-loaded apps include Sony’s own Qriocity on-demand service, Napster, Netflix, Pandora and YouTube, with more apps promised from the Android Market next Spring.
